Community Service
In addition to those awarded by the Elks National Foundation, second only
to the federal government in amount, the Nevada City Elks provide scholarships
to local outstanding high school students.

The Nevada City Elks host an annual "Hoop Shoot" which is the national
free-throw shooting contest for youngsters from the age of 8 through 13.
This annual event occurs in November of each year.
At an Elks "Hoop Shoot" free throw contest, local lodges
work in cooperation with your elementary or middle schools to create a
no cost competition that's fierce, but fun. Since its origin in 1946,
the Elks "Hoop Shoot" has grown to include more than three million participants
annually, making it the largest coeducational sports program in the country.
This program promotes cooperative approaches to preventing youth from
using illicit substances. Through literature, multi-media tools, workshops
and training seminars, the program educates students, parents, schools,
and volunteers of drug use.
The Elks have pledged not to forget our nation's veterans. Each year they
visit hundreds of thousands of veterans at VA Medical Centers, Outpatient
Clinics. and Convalescent Homes providing companionship and enhancing
their level of comfort. The value of the Elks' contributions last year
exceeded $18 million.
The name "Elks" is synonymous with "children". The Elks support scouting
and Eagle awards, outstanding student programs, sports teams recognition
and any and all activities relating to youth.
The Nevada City Elks Lodge sponsors yearly community blood drives right
in the parking lot of our lodge home.
Gratitude. Humble. Grateful. Determined. Four words and the emotions they
bring will flood into your being when you read the "Thank You" notes from
reciepients of our services. Read them at California
